Mila's zone

I believe that people who typically like my movies are those who are very fond of nightclub culture and subcultures. Vibrant scenes and crowds brimming with hormones are the best catalysts for my films. Especially those who love raves, they really enjoy my movies because there is already a very strong sense of identity in them. Therefore, the reviews tend to be quite polarized: those who like it really love it, and those who don't like it, don't. Ravers immediately recognize, 'Oh, this is about our own culture,' when they see my films. However, people who aren't into nightclub culture might not be very interested in my movies. But my ultimate goal is to achieve a good balance, so that everyone can find such works with strong cultural identity interesting and appreciate them.

Title:  When I Look At You Type of film: Experimental Documentary Name: Zhaomei Xiong (Mila) In my experimental documentary   When I Look At You , I aim to offer the audience a deeply personal and introspective exploration of the intimacy within my friendship with Qiao Gui. Through a series of reflective views, I intend to provide viewers with a unique perspective, allowing them to see my friend through my eyes. I filmed all the footages over the summer in China, fall in 2022 and the beginning of 2023 in New York. Second Update on the FINAL PROJECT Based on the structure of my first idea of Alice in Burping Land II, I'm going to set up the story background in College. I'm going to set up an actual story line instead of a basic introduction for the outlook for the world of my film. It's going called "The Sad Saxophone Burper". In the story this time, Alice reincarnated into a human being, and she meet up with Burping Angel who had also become a human being. While they are throwing out outside of the bar, they recognized each other through their ways of burping.  Here's the example of the script:  Alice: ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Imma gonna get so wasted! And I drunk so much before I even went to the bar, 1/3 of bottle of the discounted Malibu, and I only order 1 can of beer in the bar. I’m so proud of myself! Burping angel: Yeah bitch for real.  <3

  After listening to the whole lecture, I figured out that Carol Emmons' art series includes both large, site-specific installations and smaller works that are all involved with how humans navigate the world. Her investigation mainly focuses on memory, place, desire, and time, drawing inspiration from astronomy, history, and philosophy, as well as popular culture elements. This blending of high and low culture reveals a persistent fascination with liminal spaces and boundaries, such as the intersections of word and image, object and symbol, and space as both context and content. The primary focus of her works is on the means and limitations of comprehending the universe, with various approaches used as lenses to perceive the world. These installations are intended to be physical spaces for exploration and personal reflection, rather than specialized functions. I love how Terri Warpinski's concept about "A place to escape" and how she didn’t provide much meanings on the motifs of her works. She mentioned about Robert Rauschenberg and Betty Hahn's work as examples for some of her inspirations for her works and I think it is very excited to learn more about more artists or art works as sources that could be inspiring for my own works.  I was also impressed by her presentations of her early works in the Dark room, and how she represent her works as the combination of the photography and painting. For my Final Project, I was thinking of doing something like preforming arts. Something that I was inspired from my daily life, or something that I observed from myself, my own behaviors. I think twenty is a very awkward age for me, feeling like I'm saying and doing all the wrong things and looking stupid and out of place. I always think things will get better as I get a little older, I'll look forward to growing up, and I'll always wonder if I'm thirty or forty now, will I be unconcerned or comfortable with the predicament I'm in now at twenty? But I also won't know what I'll be thinking about in ten years or twenty years. I have always thought that emotional life is a very complicated topic for me, sometimes I think it is not important, and sometimes I think emotional life is important.
